Resolution (Digital)

Definition

The fineness of detail in a digital output device, measured in dots per inch (dpi) or pixels per inch (ppi). Higher resolution produces smoother letterforms with finer detail. Screen displays typically range from 72 to 300+ ppi, while laser printers operate at 300–1200 dpi and imagesetters at 1200–3600 dpi or more.
