Orthotic

Definition

Upright, as opposed to italic or oblique. Used to describe the posture of letterforms that stand vertical on the baseline. Roman type is orthotic; italic type is not. The term is used by Bringhurst as a more precise alternative to "upright" or "roman" when describing letterform posture independently of historical style.
